Physical & Body Image Health

“Dear friend, I pray that you may prosper in every way and be in good health physically just as you are spiritually.”

-Apostle Paul

3 John 1:2, Holman Christian Standard Bible

You are mind, body and spirit. Your body is the house for your spirit and soul as well as the house of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, your physical health is just as important as your spiritual health.

God wants you to be physically healthy!

Physical health includes healthy eating and nutrition, exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, taking care of your hygiene, dental care and digestive health among other things.

Ask yourself these questions…

Am I constipated? How regular are you?

Are you dehydrated? Are you getting the required amount of water daily?

Do you choose a sugary drink when thirsty more than you choose water?

Instead of functioning within your limits and getting the proper amount of sleep are you relying on caffeinated drinks such as coffee and energy drinks to make it through your day?

Are you staying up all night on your phone scrolling and not getting the proper amount of sleep?

Do you have a desire to or have been recommended by a professional or loved one to quit smoking or drinking excessive amounts of alcohol?

The health of your body interconnects with your mind and emotions, impacting your mental health. Physical illness can exacerbate depression and anxiety symptoms so please make sure to be getting your annual physical exams and going to the doctor when sick.

Keep in mind a healthy lifestyle isn't about self-condemnation when goals aren’t met. It ’s about:

-celebrating the small changes;

-not comparing yourself to others;

-getting to know your own body and nutritional needs;

-being educated on how to meet those needs and following through.
